Horizontal Dewatering Wells
Innovative mine dewatering. Delivered from outside the pit.
Cape Dunstans delivers horizontal dewatering wells for mining operations where groundwater control, safety and production continuity are critical.
Unlike conventional vertical wells, horizontal dewatering wells are drilled from outside the mine pit and designed to intersect target water-bearing zones beneath the planned pit floor. This helps reduce in-pit infrastructure, minimise disruption to active mining operations and improve safety.
Why it matters
Horizontal dewatering wells can help mining clients:
- improve groundwater control
- reduce reliance on in-pit vertical wells
- support safer mine operations
- reduce operational conflicts as the pit advances
- improve efficiency and long-term mine planning
- reduce environmental disturbance
Specialist capability
Cape Dunstans has developed a specialist horizontal dewatering well solution for the Australian mining industry, combining HDD capability, well design, drilling technology and mine water management expertise.
Proven delivery
Cape Dunstans has delivered horizontal dewatering well solutions for major mining clients, including Fortescue and Rio Tinto. At Fortescue’s Solomon Mine, the team delivered a horizontal dewatering well fitted with an electric submersible pump and variable speed drive, supporting high-yield groundwater control.
