Underground Utilities

Underground Utilities

Reliable buried infrastructure. Delivered with control.

Cape Dunstans delivers underground utilities infrastructure across urban, regional and remote environments. We install buried water, pressure and mine-site pipeline systems, supported by civil construction capability and experienced utility crews, to deliver reliable infrastructure across a wide range of ground conditions and operating environments.

From suburban development and utility corridors through to large-scale industrial and mine-site infrastructure, we deliver buried assets built to perform.

Capability

Infrastructure we install: long-distance buried pipelines, continuous full-length buried installations, pipelines in environmentally controlled corridors, mine site pipeline networks, suburban utility networks, large-scale dewatering infrastructure, water and pressure pipelines, power and communications conduits where relevant, ploughing installation methods where suitable.

Environments we operate in: urban utility corridors and subdivisions, remote and regional locations, industrial and processing facilities, environmentally sensitive areas, mine and resource operations.

How we deliver

Planned installation – detailed construction and sequencing planning aligned to program requirements. Controlled execution – installation methods matched to ground conditions and environmental constraints. Integrated delivery – civil works and pipeline installation delivered as one system, reducing interface risk. Quality and compliance – strong environmental management, testing and reporting across all stages of delivery.

Our teams manage full installation, from trenching and pipe laying through to testing, reinstatement and handover, ensuring consistent standards and reliable outcomes.

Self-perform delivery

One team. Full accountability.

Our self-perform model provides direct control over safety, quality and productivity, reduced reliance on subcontractors, consistent installation standards, and clear accountability from start to finish.

The outcomes our clients rely on

Program certainty – structured planning and experienced crews keep projects on schedule. Long-term asset performance – disciplined installation and quality control ensure pipelines are built to last. Reduced risk – controlled construction methods minimise rework, environmental breaches and operational disruption. Clear accountability – one team, direct control and proven capability from start to finish. Environmental compliance – low-impact installation suited to sensitive sites and strict land access conditions.

Proven capability

Cape Dunstans has delivered underground utilities infrastructure for government utilities and major resource operators across Western Australia.

Selected projects:

  • Covalent Lithium (Mt Holland) – 136 km DN400 HDPE water transfer pipeline including trenching, welding and trenchless crossings
  • Newmont (Boddington) – D6 Dam and Mine Infrastructure Project including 7 GL water storage facility, pipelines and associated works
  • BHP Nickel West (Mt Keith) – 35 km buried water pipeline delivered under strict environmental requirements
  • Fortescue (KCU JV) – approximately 100 km of dewatering pipelines installed annually over a five-year program

Let’s talk

We deliver essential buried infrastructure through disciplined planning, controlled construction and strong partnerships.

Featured projects

Newmont D6 Dam and Mine Infrastructure Project

Client: Newmont Gold Corporation. Location: Boddington Mine, Bannister WA. Cape Dunstans was engaged by Newmont Gold Corporation to deliver the D6 Dam and Mine Infrastructure Project at the Boddington mine. The project involves the construction of a seven-gigalitre water storage facility and associated mine infrastructure to support ongoing site operations. Project scope included supply and construction of five pumping stations complete with more than 15 pumps, electrical works, supply and installation of a 2,000m3 panel storage tank, civil works and bulk earthworks, and supply and construction of more than 30km of large-bore HDPE and MSCL pipelines up to DN800.

Mt Holland Water Pipeline Project

Client: Covalent Lithium. Location: Moorine Rock to Mt Holland, Western Australia. Cape Dunstans was engaged to deliver the construction of a new 136km transfer pipeline from the Goldfields Water Pipeline tie-in at Moorine Rock to the Mt Holland Concentrator site. The pipeline was predominantly DN400 PN20 PE100 HDPE and formed part of critical water infrastructure supporting the Mt Holland Lithium Project. Works included test pitting, transport, stringing and welding of HDPE pipe, trenching, bedding, backfilling, reinstatement, trenchless crossings and as-built surveying. Cape Dunstans completed pipe stringing, welding and testing using specialised Fast Fusion welding equipment and qualified poly welders, with trenching and burial works carried out using Vermeer chain trenching machines and padding machines. The project also required directional drilling and other trenchless construction methods beneath sealed roads and constrained sections of the corridor, including crossings such as Parker Range Road.
