Environmental Responsibility

Minimise impact. Maintain performance.

Environmental management is embedded in how Cape Dunstans plans and delivers infrastructure – reducing impact while maintaining program certainty and construction quality.

How we deliver

Planning-led – environmental risks are identified early and built into project methodology and sequencing, particularly in sensitive or constrained environments. Controlled delivery – our self-perform model enables tighter control on site, reducing disturbance, managing waste and minimising environmental risk. Fit-for-purpose methods – we apply construction techniques suited to the environment, including trenchless and low-disturbance approaches, to protect surrounding assets. Rehabilitation capability – we support mine-site rehabilitation and land restoration as part of the project lifecycle.

Accountability in practice

Clear standards – we operate within structured environmental management systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory and client requirements. Defined controls – environmental procedures and controls are embedded in project planning and delivery. Ongoing monitoring – performance is tracked across projects to support consistent outcomes and continuous improvement.

What this means for our clients

  • Reduced environmental risk and compliance exposure
  • Lower site disturbance and more efficient delivery
  • Greater certainty in approvals and stakeholder outcomes

In practice

We implement simple yet practical initiatives that make a big difference in reducing waste and increasing recycling rates:

  • A ‘battery rescue’ program for the safe collection and recycling of used batteries
  • Designated bins for general waste and cardboard
  • Responsible disposal of hydrocarbon and oil waste using Wren Oil containers for waste oil, oil filters and aerosol cans
  • Collection of old paint in stillage containers for safe disposal at local recycling centres
  • Dedicated systems for recycling single-use bottles, tins and steel scrap through partners such as Allied Metal
